About the Event

The classical guitar boasts a repertoire that spans centuries, featuring music for the lute and other instruments that preceded the guitar. Today's program presents a carefully curated selection of pieces inspired by dance, song, and a range of emotions from profound reflection to exuberant joy, highlighting the expressive and colorful nature of the classical guitar. Join us on Mother's Day for an enchanting recital performed by the esteemed guitarist Alan Rinehart. His artistry has garnered him international recognition and praise, notably from Fanfare Magazine, which described Alan as "a true gentleman of the guitar."

About Alan Rinehart
Alan Rinehart

Alan Rinehart has over 50 years’ experience as a professional classical guitarist with many contributions to the guitar world as a performer, teacher, and music editor. Upon completing university, he studied lute repertoire and technique in London, England at the Early Music Centre. From 1983 to 2003 he was a faculty member of the music schools at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Community College. He is a co-founder of The Vancouver Guitar Quartet, which became a regular part of the Vancouver and western Canadian music scene from the late 1980s to 2003, with many concert and radio appearances.


Alan had the honour of performing for their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (the current Prince and Princess of Wales) during their 2016 Royal Tour visit to BC. He has released ten solo CDs and one CD with The Vancouver Guitar Quartet, all to international critical praise. His sixth solo CD, Verdi’s Guitar was chosen by Classical Guitar Magazine as one of the top 10 recordings of the year.


Alan's recordings include Sylvius Leopold Weiss - Baroque Lute Works released in September 2021. His latest recordings released on digital streaming platforms include Musick to Delight, Elizabethan lute music played on guitar and recently released In Parlors Past, light music from early to late 19th century. Alan has also been editing and fingering three volumes of John W. Duarte's transcriptions of lute music, recently published by Ut Orpheus.
